Calif. May Force Emergency Medical Equipment On Retailers

Law360, New York (June 18, 2014, 10:15 PM EDT) -- The California Supreme Court will soon issue a decision in Verdugo v. Target Stores, in which the plaintiff alleges that large retailers such as Target Corp. have an obligation to keep automatic external defibrillators ("AEDs") in stores. Verdugo is a case brought by the family of a woman who suffered sudden cardiac arrest while shopping at a Target store. The store did not have an AED and, by the time the paramedics arrived, the shopper passed away....
