Gay Rights Group Challenges Defense Of Marriage Act

Law360, New York (March 03, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders has filed a federal lawsuit challenging the Defense of Marriage Act, alleging the Clinton-era law deprives gay federal employees' spouses of benefits including pension and health insurance.

The gay advocacy group sued the federal government on Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, listing 19 gay plaintiffs who have been legally married in the state.
