Georgia Power Hits Coal Co. With $64M Contract Suit

Law360, New York (June 01, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- Georgia Power Co. has sued a coal supplier for $64 million, accusing the company of reneging on a contract to deliver millions of tons of coal when prices skyrocketed.

Chas Coal LLC, a Kentucky-based coal company, ran out on a multiyear contract in 2008, which forced Georgia Power to look for an alternate supplier, according to a complaint filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
