Shell To Pay $19.5M for Gas Station Enviro Violations

Law360, New York (November 06, 2009, 5:31 PM ET) -- Shell Oil Co. has agreed to pay California $19.5 million to resolve allegations that it violated the state's hazardous waste and underground fuel storage laws.

Judge Robert B. Freedman of the Alameda County Superior Court approved a stipulated settlement between Shell and California's attorney general on Friday. The oil giant did not admit fault but agreed to pay the state millions in penalties and restitution and to take steps to reduce leaks and better respond to spills.
