Bill Would Close Off Part Of Mojave To Renewables

Law360, New York (December 23, 2009, 6:01 PM ET) -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has introduced a bill that would protect more than 1 million acres in California's Mojave Desert and close those lands to solar and wind power generation.

The legislation, introduced Monday, would designate two new national monuments in the Mojave Desert. One, the Mojave Trails National Monument, would protect about 941,000 acres, including roughly 266,000 acres of former railroad lands along Route 66, while the other, the Sand to Snow National Monument, would encompass 134,000 acres of land around Joshua Tree National Park....
