Law360, New York (January 06, 2010, 6:35 PM ET) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's enforcement office has reported a 54 percent drop in fine and penalty dollars doled out from fiscal years 2008 to 2009, blaming the lull on a lack of blockbuster cases.
According to data released on Dec. 23, the agency ordered violators to spend about $5.4 billion to rectify civil and criminal penalties in Barack Obama's first year as president, down from $11.8 billion in 2008, the final year of the Bush administration.
