Senate Energy Chair Urges US Nuclear Safety Review

Law360, New York (March 15, 2011, 5:20 PM ET) -- Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said Tuesday that he hoped the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission acts quickly in weighing the adequacy of safety precautions for U.S. nuclear reactors in light of the post-tsunami nuclear emergency in Japan.

Bingaman also said that, while the NRC was primarily responsible to a different Senate committee, he would not be surprised if his panel decided to hold a hearing on the implications of the events in Japan on nuclear power generation capacity...
