Law360, New York (April 21, 2011, 6:19 PM ET) -- Chesapeake Energy Corp. said Thursday it had voluntarily suspended all well completion operations in Pennsylvania while it evaluates a natural gas well blowout on Tuesday that spilled thousands of gallons of chemical-laced hydraulic fracturing fluids.
The exact cause of the blowout in Bradford County, Pa., is unknown, but it will likely add to the mounting concern surrounding hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, a process in which chemicals, water and sand are injected into shale formations under tremendous amounts of pressure in order to stimulate production.
