Law360, New York (May 25, 2011, 4:34 PM ET) -- The Sierra Club sued an International Coal Group Inc. unit in Kentucky on Tuesday, claiming the mining company was unlawfully discharging the toxic pollutant selenium into the state's waters.
The environmental group alleges that ICG Hazard LLC violates the Clean Water Act and the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act by allowing selenium produced from its operations at the Thunder Ridge surface mine to seep into the waters adjacent to the mine.
