Offshore Chief Will Allow BP To Join Gulf Lease Sale

Law360, New York (October 13, 2011, 6:36 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior’s top offshore drilling official on Thursday told a congressional committee that his agency wouldn’t bar BP PLC from an upcoming lease sale, despite its role in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Michael Bromwich, director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, told the House Natural Resources Committee that BP would be allowed to participate in a December auction for an oil drilling lease in the Gulf of Mexico.
