Obama Renews NRC Commissioner's Term Despite Dems' Gripes

Law360, New York (May 08, 2012, 8:09 PM ET) -- President Barack Obama on Tuesday officially nominated Kristine Svinicki to a second term on the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, despite Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., having said he would block her confirmation in the Senate.

Svinicki, first appointed by former President George W. Bush, was one of four commissioners who wrote to the White House in October alleging NRC Chair Gregory Jaczko — appointed by Obama in 2009 — had violated NRC rules and intimidated commissioners and staffers.
