Va. Officials Endorse $2B Coal Country Highway Project

Law360, New York (May 17, 2012, 10:46 PM ET) -- A state transportation board expressed overwhelming enthusiasm Wednesday for a proposed $2.1 billion highway in southwestern Virginia's coal country, setting up the project for a possible successful path through the regulatory process.

The project, known as the Coalfields Expressway, aims to provide an economic lifeline for a region suffering from high unemployment and declining population. If completed, the proposed 51-mile highway would link to existing highways in West Virginia and Virginia.
