Texas Court Tosses Oil Co.'s Royalty Suit Against Ex-Worker

Law360, New York (August 02, 2012, 10:53 PM ET) -- A Texas appeals court ruled Thursday that under state law, a suit brought by a Houston oil and gas developer seeking to reclaim royalty interests held by a former employee could not be heard in Harris County.

The First Court of Appeals ruled that because Smith Energy Corp. is seeking a forfeiture of mineral interests it assigned to its former landman Mark P. Hardwick, the suit must be heard in one of several counties where the interests are located.
