NRC Finalizes Guidance On Post-Fukushima Safety Measures

Law360, New York (August 31, 2012, 2:36 PM ET) -- The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Friday finalized guidance on how power plants can comply with new safety measures devised in the wake of an earthquake and tsunami that sparked a nuclear crisis in Japan last year.

The agency issued three orders it described as essential while also suggesting that a similar disaster is unlikely to play out in the U.S. because of existing regulatory requirements and plant capabilities. The orders, which take effect in 2017, require installation of extra equipment to protect against worst-case-scenario mishaps....
