NY Says It Will Keep Control Of Fracking Health Study

Law360, New York (September 21, 2012, 4:29 PM ET) -- New York’s top environmental regulator on Thursday rejected calls for an independent study on hydraulic fracturing’s impact on public health, saying the state would conduct a review before deciding whether to lift the ban on the controversial natural gas drilling process.

New York Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Joseph Martens tapped New York Health Commissioner Nirav Shah to assess a health impact analysis the NYDEC has already prepared, saying it would be inappropriate to defer to a third-party.
