Pa. Enviros Challenge Permit Over Fracking Water Byproduct

Law360, Philadelphia (October 03, 2012, 3:27 PM ET) -- A Pennsylvania environmental advocacy group Monday challenged the state Department of Environmental Protection’s decision to issue a permit to Integrated Water Technologies Inc. for processing a byproduct from water used in fracking.

Citizens for Pennsylvania’s Future contends that while IWT asked for a permit allowing a particular treatment process for wastewater from fracking, the DEP issued the New Jersey company a permit that authorizes the statewide use of a product taken from the treatment process.
