Kinder Morgan Unit Fined Over Oil Spill At NJ Facility

Law360, New York (October 18, 2012, 8:31 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation on Wednesday hit Kinder Morgan Liquids Terminals LLC with a $425,000 penalty for pipeline safety violations that contributed to a 8,600-gallon oil spill in 2009 at a terminal facility in New Jersey.

Kinder Morgan must also make several improvements to the facility and other equipment as part of a settlement.

The DOT's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration investigated the spill in 2010 and found several violations, including that Kinder Morgan failed to have and follow written procedures for starting up...
