Law360, New York (November 19, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- Sulfur dioxide emissions from the power industry, one of the chief air pollutants responsible for causing acid rain, fell below 10 million tons for the first time ever in 2006, U.S. environmental officials revealed on Friday.
The Environmental Protection Agency said that its Acid Rain Program has become one of the most successful environmental programs in U.S. history, causing a 830,000 ton reduction of annual sulfur dioxide emissions between 2005 and 2006.
