Sasol To Appeal €318M Wax Cartel Fine

Law360, New York (October 06, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- Sasol Ltd. plans to appeal a €318.2 million ($430 million) fine for its involvement in a paraffin wax cartel, the South African energy giant announced just two days after being hit with the European Commission's fourth-largest individual fine for cartel participation.

Sasol had expected to receive a fine in the matter but questioned the size of the penalty because the company had not fully acquired Sasol Wax GmbH until 2002 and therefore had not known about the company's anti-competitive behavior until the commission opened its investigation...
