Markey To Head Key House Environmental Panel

Law360, New York (January 08, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- U.S. Rep. Edward J. Markey, D-Mass., a strong voice in Congress for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, announced Thursday that he would take over as chairman of a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee responsible for drafting climate change legislation.

Markey, who headed the communications, technology and the Internet subcommittee during the last congressional session, said he would now oversee the subcommittee on energy and environment.

He will be taking over for Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Va., who is perceived as being more friendly to the energy industry's interests....
