Law360, New York (June 30, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- In an effort to protect several dwindling mollusk species in the Southeastern United States, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed listing two aquatic snails and one mussel as endangered and designating the streams where they reside as critical habitats.
The agency lodged a notice of proposed rulemaking Monday in the Federal Register, seeking federal protection for the Georgia pigtoe mussel, interrupted rocksnail and rough hornsnail, whose natural ranges have been irreversibly damaged by construction and pollution.
