Enviro Groups To Sue Mirant Over Coal Ash Dump

Law360, New York (November 20, 2009, 1:49 PM ET) -- Four environmental groups have informed Mirant Corp. that they intend to sue the power company for alleged Clean Water Act violations at a Maryland coal ash landfill.

The Defenders of Wildlife, the Sierra Club, Chesapeake Climate Action Network and Patuxent Riverkeeper sent Mirant notice Thursday of their intent to sue within 60 days over allegations that the company fails to comply with the terms of its Clean Water Act permit and illegally discharges pollutants at its Brandywine Coal Combustion Waste Landfill.
