Law360, New York (January 25, 2010, 3:32 PM ET) -- Westar Energy Inc. has agreed to settle a Clean Air Act lawsuit by spending about $500 million for pollution-control equipment at a coal-fired power plant in Kansas, paying a $3 million civil penalty and investing $6 million on environmental mitigation projects.
The proposed settlement between the utility and U.S. regulators, which is still subject to a 30-day public comment period and final approval from a judge, was lodged Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas.
