EPA Launches New Hydraulic Fracturing Probe

Law360, New York (March 18, 2010, 6:26 PM ET) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency launched an investigation Thursday into whether the increasingly popular natural gas excavation process known as hydraulic fracturing poses a threat to nearby water sources.

The probe has been requested by Congress, which is currently mulling changes to the Energy Policy Act of 2005 that would allow the EPA to regulate the water standards of fluids that are used in hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking.”
