Salazar Floats New Deepwater Drilling Ban

Law360, New York (July 12, 2010, 6:14 PM ET) -- Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar issued a new moratorium on offshore drilling Tuesday, following the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit's decision to reject the previous ban.

The new moratorium will allow the relatively safe shallow water drilling to go forward, but will ban most deepwater drilling operations until as late as Nov. 30, the U.S. Department of the Interior said.
