Law360, New York (March 22, 2011, 4:23 PM ET) -- The U.S. on Tuesday gave the green light to Shell Offshore Inc.'s Gulf of Mexico deepwater exploration plan, the first issued under heightened environmental review rules installed in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon disaster.
Approval by the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement will allow Shell Offshore, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell PLC, to seek permits to drill three new exploratory wells 130 miles off Louisiana's shore on Shell's Augur field.
