Law360, New York (April 20, 2011, 1:29 PM ET) -- San Diego Coastkeeper sued the U.S. Department of Defense in California on Monday, claiming it spilled more than 500,000 gallons of untreated sewage from a U.S. Marine Corps base in violation of the Clean Water Act.
The environmental organization says untreated wastewater from a sanitary sewer system at Camp Pendleton in Southern California has reached federal waters and other areas because of illegal discharges not allowed under a national pollutant discharge elimination system permit, among other allegations.
