Law360, New York (August 23, 2011, 4:53 PM ET) -- An environmental group hit the U.S. government with a suit Friday in New York federal court, seeking to force action on a 3-year-old petition to ban the chemical bisphenol A from food packaging.
The Natural Resources Defense Council accuses the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services of unreasonably failing to grant or deny the petition in the mandatory 180-day window. If granted, the ban would apply to food products packaged domestically as well as imports.
