Law360, New York (May 01, 2012, 10:13 PM ET) -- A New Mexico-based conservationist group hit the U.S. Department of Agriculture with a lawsuit Monday, claiming its Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has killed more than 5 million animals a year based on outdated environmental analyses.
WildEarth Guardians says that between 2004 and 2010, the agency spent nearly $1 billion to kill nearly 23 million animals using aerial guns, poisons, traps, snares and hounds, as a means of protecting agriculture and “private interests,” as part of an ineffective program.
