Law360, New York (May 24, 2012, 9:19 PM ET) -- Texas’ energy regulator unveiled an initiative Wednesday aimed at reducing drillers’ use of flaring — the practice of burning off natural gas to access oil — saying the state needed to update its standards as production rises in Texas shale plays.
Texas Railroad Commissioner David Porter said he would roll out a series of new measures to discourage the use of flaring and find “common-sense” ways to revise regulations on the practice without hampering the state’s booming oil and natural gas industry.
