Argentine High Court Backs Glacier Protection Law

Law360, New York (July 03, 2012, 8:41 PM ET) -- Argentina's Supreme Court on Tuesday overturned a lower court's ruling that prevented key provisions of a glacier protection law from taking effect in the San Juan province, where Canadian mining giant Barrick Gold Corp. is building a large gold mine.

The nation's highest court said the allegedly irreparable harm the law's challengers, Barrick Exploraciones Argentina SA and Exploraciones Mineras Argentinas SA, would suffer by delaying operations does not justify an injunction preventing the law from taking effect in the province.
