Law360, New York (August 03, 2012, 1:54 PM ET) -- Velsicol Chemical LLC on Thursday sued Chartis Specialty Insurance Co. in Illinois court, alleging the insurer improperly denied its requests for coverage of three environmental cleanups in violation of policies held by the chemical manufacturer.
After being denied coverage for cleanups at sites in Mississippi, Texas and Rhode Island, Velsicol claims it was improperly stuck with the bill and is seeking to make Chartis pay for the costs now. The chemical company is suing the insurer for breach of contract and bad faith claims.
