BP Wants Outside Probe Of Deepwater Horizon Payouts

Law360, Chicago (June 21, 2013, 8:00 PM ET) -- BP PLC wants an independent investigation of the system handling payouts under a potentially $7.8 billion settlement arising from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the company said Friday, citing a report that an attorney under the court’s claims administrator accepted improper payments.

The energy giant issued the statement after the Associated Press reported Thursday that claims administrator Patrick Juneau apprised the judge overseeing the case of allegations of misconduct against one of his lawyers, Lionel H. Sutton III.
