Calif. Gov. OKs Bill To Curb Chemical Warning Suits

Law360, San Diego (October 07, 2013, 6:48 PM ET) -- California Gov. Jerry Brown on Saturday signed a measure that seeks to rein in suits against small businesses accused of failing to comply with Proposition 65 requirements for posting warnings on potentially harmful chemicals.

A.B. 227, carried by state Assemblyman Mike Gatto, D-Burbank, allows companies that receive notice claiming they are in violation of Proposition 65 to receive 14 days to address the alleged problem and to pay a $500 civil fine for each facility at issue in order to avoid litigation.
