EPA Enlists NAS To Study Perchlorate Effects

Law360, New York (January 08, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has asked the National Academy of Sciences for input on the effects of perchlorate, a toxic component in rocket fuel that has been found in high levels in U.S. drinking water.

Concurrently on Thursday, the EPA issued an interim health advisory for perchlorate levels of 15 parts per billion in drinking water.

The advisory, designed to help state and local governments address perchlorate drinking water contamination, replaces the previous preliminary remediation goal of 24.5 ppb.
