Green Groups Urge EPA Action On Coal Ash Regulation

Law360, New York (March 04, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- More than 100 environmental groups are urging newly appointed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson to “assume the lead responsibility” in establishing heightened standards for regulating coal combustion waste in the wake of last year's massive coal ash spill in Tennessee.

The organizations, including Earthjustice, the Sierra Club, Natural Resources Defense Council, Greenpeace, National Wildlife Foundation and Public Citizen, sent a letter to Jackson on Monday, calling for either legislation or new regulations to improve storage methods for coal ash, which has been shown to...
