EU Parliament Greenlights Congestion Fees For Trucks

Law360, New York (March 12, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- Heavy vehicles in Europe are closer to being charged for the air pollution, noise and road congestion they cause, after the European Parliament overcame substantial opposition to approve legislation allowing new fees to be imposed on trucks.

The legislative resolution was adopted Wednesday in a vote with 359 in favor, 256 against and 85 abstentions, according to a statement from the Parliament. The Green Group party proposed that carbon dioxide emissions should also be chargeable, but this amendment was rejected.
