Law360, New York (November 12, 2010, 5:27 PM ET) -- Utah has sued GlaxoSmithKline PLC, accusing the pharmaceutical giant of defrauding the state's Medicare program of the $7.8 million it spent on the recently restricted diabetes drug Avandia.
GSK engaged in a long-running pattern of deceptive conduct in marketing the diabetes drug, claiming that Avandia reduced the risk of heart disease despite the results of several studies showing a link between Avandia use and an increased risk of heart attacks, according to the complaint filed Tuesday in Salt Lake City's county court by Utah's attorney general....
