Law360, New York (May 12, 2011, 1:25 PM ET) -- Former Virginia legislator Phillip A. Hamilton was convicted Wednesday of bribery and extortion for allegedly trading state money for a job at Old Dominion University.
Hamilton, a former senior Republican in the Virginia House of Delegates, used his position on the Appropriations Committee to deliver $1 million in state money to a teaching center at ODU in exchange for a role as the center's director, according to prosecutors.
