Senate To Consider Repeal Of Contractor Tax Rule

Law360, New York (November 08, 2011, 5:22 PM ET) -- The U.S. Senate voted Monday evening to debate a bill that would repeal an unpopular rule requiring the government to automatically withhold 3 percent from payments to contractors, following the overwhelming passage of the bill in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The House bill, H.R. 674, passed by a 405-16 vote Oct. 27 and has been supported by President Barack Obama, government contractors and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. It would scrap a 2006 mandate that aimed to prevent payments to government contractors who owed taxes...
