Law360, New York (January 13, 2012, 8:41 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of Defense could do more to fulfill an obligation to boost competition as much as possible for contracts that fall under the national security exception to full and open competition, a federal watchdog said Friday.
The national security exception is tailored for situations where disclosing the government's needs in full and open competition would reveal information that would harm national security. However, agencies who utilize the exception are required to request proposals from as many potential sources as is feasible.
