Law360, New York (April 19, 2012, 1:42 PM ET) -- A Michigan man pled guilty Wednesday to recruiting and paying patients to receive medically unnecessary diagnostic tests as part of a $5.5 million Medicare fraud scheme that has already led to several guilty pleas by other defendants.
Daron Elder, 28, pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud. Elder, who worked as a patient recruiter for Blessed Medical Clinic in Livonia, Mich., paid indigent Medicare beneficiaries cash kickbacks to receive diagnostic tests he knew were medically unnecessary, prosecutors said.
