Va. Joins $500M Medicaid Fraud Suit Against Healthpoint

Law360, New York (May 18, 2012, 6:04 PM ET) -- Virginia joined the federal government and other states Thursday in accusing Healthpoint Ltd. of costing Medicaid agencies more than $500 million by falsely claiming its bedsore ointment Xenaderm was eligible for reimbursement coverage.

In an intervenor complaint filed in Massachusetts federal court, the state of Virginia claimed that Healthpoint violated the state’s Fraud Against Taxpayers Act and cost the state more than $600,000 by allegedly submitting false quarterly statements to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
