GAO Criticizes DOD Efforts To Beef Up Acquisition Staff

Law360, New York (June 22, 2012, 8:20 PM ET) -- Efforts by the U.S. Department of Defense to beef up and better train its purchasing and acquisition employees have been hampered by funding delays and lack of an overall strategy, a U.S. Government Accountability Office report said Thursday.

The GAO’s study, which was conducted from March to June, concluded that the $1.8 billion Defense Acquisition Workforce Development Fund was not being used as efficiently as possible as a tool to address gaps in the department’s pool of purchasing employees.
