Fed. Circ. Affirms Katrina Trailer Contractor's Penalty

Law360, Washington (July 11, 2012, 5:45 PM ET) -- The Federal Circuit on Wednesday upheld a U.S. Court of Federal Claims judgment that ordered contractor Alcatec LLC to pay $352,000 for fraudulent billing stemming from a mobile home inspection contract with the federal government after Hurricane Katrina.

While Alcatec told both courts the Federal Emergency Management Agency still owed $3.8 million on an originally $6.1 million contract that it pared down after a calculation error, the agency countered, pointing to hundreds of false invoices the contractor submitted for inspections that never occurred.
