GAO Report May Spark More Opposition To Base Closures

Law360, New York (July 20, 2012, 7:27 PM ET) -- A government report has found that the 2005 round of base realignment and closures, or BRAC, cost $14 billion more than military planners initially estimated, likely fueling more congressional opposition to the Pentagon's politically unpopular plan to close more bases.

The top Democrats on the Senate and House Armed Services Committee said the U.S. Government Accountability Office's report on costs hadn't shifted them from their positions on BRAC, with Sen.
