Law360, New York (July 27, 2012, 5:10 PM ET) -- The U.S. Government Accountability Office issued a report Thursday calling for agencies to more clearly define the roles and responsibilities of chief acquisition officers, finding that very few CAOs have acquisition management as their primary duty and some lack any procurement guidance authority.
While concluding that CAO appointments generally meet legislative requirements, the GAO said that most CAOs have significant management responsibilities outside of acquisition management and are not provided with effective explanation of the job's requirements.
