Law360, New York (August 06, 2012, 7:13 PM ET) -- Hospital company HCA Holdings Inc. said Monday that the U.S. Department of Justice was investigating whether some of its hospitals billed the federal government for heart procedures that were not medically necessary, a probe HCA said could lead to False Claims Act allegations.
According to HCA's second quarter filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the DOJ is examining records at 95 HCA hospitals nationwide to see whether services related to implantable cardiac defibrillators met Medicare criteria.
