Law360, New York (August 13, 2012, 5:13 PM ET) -- A Virginia federal judge on Friday unsealed a former ambulance company employee's whistleblower suit claiming the company defrauded Medicare and Medicaid by falsely reporting that nonemergency transportation services it provided to dialysis patients were medically necessary.
The qui tam suit claims Eastern Shore Medical Inc., doing business as First Med Inc., has knowingly submitted false claims to Medicare and Medicaid since December 2009 by falsely certifying that patients it transported weren't ambulatory.
