Law360, New York (October 10, 2012, 4:38 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of Defense's inspector general has issued a scathing report on the state of the DOD's single-bid contract awards, saying the agency's failure to follow competition guidelines has deprived it of potential savings.
The inspector general's Oct. 4 report covered 190 contracts and 47 contract modifications worth nearly $2 billion. It concluded the armed services hadn't adhered to the government's single-bid rules for 31 out of 78 single-bid contracts because their competition advocates hadn't properly verified contracting officers were correctly following the government's directives....
